The Rhythms of Life

A New Season

at Calvary

Life is Filled With Rhythms

The Hebrew calendar had holidays in the spring: Passover, First Fruits, and Unleavened Bread. Then there were the holidays in the fall: Trumpets, the Day of Atonement, and Tabernacles. In between these seasons was the Feast of Pentecost, or Weeks.

There were also the rhythms of the harvest. In the spring, barley and wheat were harvested. Then, in the summer, they harvested grapes, figs, and dates. Finally, pomegranates and olives were gathered.

Likewise, we have rhythms in our modern age. We have just finished our summer season, and now fall is upon us. Life moves forward. Football season has kicked off, and apple harvest festivals are beginning with cider, cinnamon donuts, and apple fritters.

The seasons of the year and the rhythms of life are a gift from God. Fall is my favorite time of year as the temperatures moderate, the leaves change, and life slows down a bit from the fast pace of summer. Paul told the people of Lystra that “God did good by giving you rains from heaven and fruitful seasons, satisfying your hearts with food and gladness” (Acts 14:17).

The Preacher told us, “For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven” (Ecclesiastes 3:1). God has given us every season for all the activities of life: times of growth and decline, times of joy, and even times of sadness. Yet in all these times, Christ is with us and calling us to go deeper with Him. Remember His promise: “I will never leave you nor forsake you” (Hebrews 13:5).

Enjoy the Rhythms

What a wonderful day of worship and fellowship at Oneida Shores for our Labor Day Picnic! We were blessed to have 212 people join us for our outdoor service and a time of food, fun, and fellowship together.

Thank you to everyone who attended and to the many volunteers and leaders who helped make the day possible. We’re grateful for every opportunity to gather as a church family, grow in fellowship, and share life together.

More Followers of Jesus!

Last week, we had the joy of celebrating baptisms together as a church family! What a blessing to witness these public declarations of faith in Jesus Christ and celebrate what God is doing in the lives of His people.

Bible verse of the week.

"I will never leave you nor forsake you.”

The American flag waving on a pole against a cloudy sky

The Greatest Day of Labor How Christ Ties into Labor Day Labor Day is a national holiday that honors and recognizes the contributions of American workers and the role they have played in building our great nation. In the late 19th century, trade unions proposed a “Labor Day,” a day set aside to celebrate the contributions of workers. By 1894, thirty states were already celebrating Labor Day. On June 28 of that same year, President Grover Cleveland signed it into law as a federal holiday....

The Transfiguration of Jesus.

Transformed By Christ Listen to Him The transfiguration of Jesus is a significant event recorded in the Gospels (Matthew 17, Mark 9, and Luke 9). The Church celebrates and remembers this event on August 6th. Although we don’t have a special service to commemorate it, it is certainly something worth thinking about. Jesus took His inner circle of disciples, Peter, James, and John, and went up a high mountain. While they were there, Christ was transfigured before them. His glory shone through...

Bring your Bible on vacation with you and read His Word anywhere.

Vacation With God Unplug from the Daily Demands of Life Americans love to go on vacation. We visit national parks and travel to scenic destinations like the coast of Maine, the Black Hills, the Grand Canyon, and the coast of California. Many also enjoy visiting places like Disney World, Washington, D.C., Boston, Philadelphia, and even the Ark Encounter in Kentucky. Others simply like to escape to a quiet lake retreat or a cabin in the Adirondacks to unplug and recharge. Jesus often did the...
